*Yawn* Hi guys, short post today….it is very very late here in Columbus, and the night is creeping into the wee small hours of the morning. The work seems to just keep piling and piling up these days, and the past few nights I have been sacrificing sleeping hours for homework time. This is the reason why my posts may become scarce in the coming days (although I really do try to find a few moments in the day to tumble along) so I am apologizing in advance to you all! So today I am beginning a string of mainly informational posts (boring I know) of what I would eventually like my tumblr to become, and where I will be heading towards in the coming weeks. I am still mildly unsure of and am brand spankin’ new to the blogging scene, so I am easing into this process as I go along. All I ask of you is to stay tuned, I promise the momentum will pick up and the randomness will fall into normalcy :) Keep your eyes peeled for information on who Champagne and Leather is, coming soon! I leave you with one of my favorite songs of all time…makes me reminiscent of the dream-like streets of Paris. Sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite!
Living in a Dream
I want to focus on my favorite designing duo today, Marchesa. The leading ladies behind this label are Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, and their most recent endeavor in their Fall 2011 collection blew me away, with their signature billowing tulle skirts and immaculately sculptured and detailed bodices abundant in the collection. I will be referencing Marchesa heavily in their most recent season for my collection I am working on for my Fashion Fundamentals class (I will post pictures as soon as possible, I promise!), which is taking inspiration from the painting “Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,” by Georges Seurat. I plan to take the erethral, calm feel and fuse it with Victorian-inspired fabrics and shapes…much similar to Marchesa’s signature style! I can’t wait to see how it will turn out, I will keep all of you posted!
For now, back to work here at CCAD….
Fierce
Marc Jacobs. We all know his name, but do we really know the power he has to create incredible works of art? That we wear on our feet? These shoes from Jacobs’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection have been on my must-have list these days, simply because they are so fierce! They have incredible details, from the velvet sole to the petite tongue sticking out of the tiny snake’s head, making them super fierce and super powerful…they seem to unleash the inner Egyptian goddess in whoever wears them! Just goes to show Marc Jacobs’s ability to make every woman feel as if she can conquer the world!
Have a great weekend everyone! Get out enjoy the sunshine, remember…summer doesn’t last forever!
Getting Some Fun Out Of Life
So recently I have been listening to lots of Billie Holiday, Doris Day, Louis Armstrong, and the like, and I have found myself deeply in love with their music. I have to admit, I am a helpless romantic and sentimentalist, which maybe the reason that I adore these singers, yet they seem to highlight a certain beauty in life, a certain charm, a certain elegance that cannot be found in many other places. As a result of this current musical streak, I decided to share a very extremely charming video I stumbled upon on YouTube while recently listening to Billie Holiday (it is spelled “Billie,” not Billy as in the video), done by an anonymous YouTuber who combined old retro family 8mm film reels with the lovely song “Getting Some Fun Out of Life.” This nostalgic song video immaculately represents recent views and thoughts that have been running through my head these past few days : that life should not be wasted on second guesses and comparisons to others. We all should take time to just slow down and drink in the beautiful world around us, even with it’s flawed face. Enjoy the simple things, laugh often, cook, watch old movies, read good books, and make the most fun out of this wild ride we call life.
Happy Friday Everyone!
